Who we are
ShellSage is a mobile app for connecting to and managing your own servers. It is a software product of Ai Canadian Solutions Ltd. ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By creating an account or using ShellSage, you agree to this Policy.
Information you provide
Account details: your name, email address, an optional phone number, and a password (kept in a securely hashed form — we never store your password as plain text). Saved connections: the connection details you choose to save — a label, the host address, port, and username, along with the sign-in credential for that server (an SSH key or a password). So your saved connections are available on any device where you sign in, these are stored on our servers in encrypted form and protected by access controls. You can delete any saved connection at any time.
Information from your use of the app
Activity for app features: basic connection activity such as when you last connected and total time connected, and how often you use particular commands — used to power conveniences like recent activity and "most used" suggestions. AI assistance: when you ask the in-app assistant for help, the text (and any screenshot you choose to share) is processed to generate a response. Your assistant history is not kept unless you turn that option on. Files you send: a file or screenshot you send to a server is stored privately for up to 24 hours so the server can fetch it, then it is automatically deleted. Diagnostics: app version and occasional crash or outage reports that help us keep the app reliable.
Usage analytics
We collect basic usage information - such as how long you connect to your saved servers and how often you use core features - to run the app, show you your own usage history, and improve our product and pricing. While your account is active this is tied to your account; it is never sold or shared with advertisers or third parties. When you delete your account, we erase your personal data and retain only anonymized, aggregated statistics that cannot identify you, for our own product analytics.
What we do NOT collect
We do not record the contents of your terminal sessions, your keystrokes, or your scrollback. We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
How we use your information
To provide and secure the app; to sync your saved connections across your devices; to operate features you use; to process the AI help you request; to manage subscriptions and billing; to communicate important account, security, and service messages; and to detect, prevent, and address abuse or technical problems.
How we protect your information
Information is encrypted in transit, and saved-connection credentials are encrypted at rest and access-controlled. You can add an extra layer by enabling biometric unlock (fingerprint / Face ID) for the app and for individual connections. No method of storage or transmission is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using appropriate safeguards.
Sharing with service providers
We share information only as needed to run ShellSage — for example with providers that deliver our email, process payments, host our service, and power AI assistance. These providers may process information only to perform services for us. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
Third-party providers (sub-processors)
The third-party services we rely on to operate ShellSage, and what each handles: OpenAI — powers the in-app AI assistant; your prompts, any screenshot you choose to share, and a privacy-scrubbed summary of commands are processed to generate responses. Stripe — payment processing for subscriptions. SendGrid (Twilio) — delivers our sign-in and account emails, which involves your email address. GitHub — only if you choose "Sign in with GitHub", which shares your email address with us to create or access your account. DigitalOcean — cloud hosting where our service runs and data is stored. Google — on Android only, the device's on-device speech recognition is used when you use voice dictation. Each provider processes information solely to perform its service for us, and we never sell your data or share it with advertisers. If you bring your own AI key (BYOK), your AI requests go to the provider you chose under that provider's own terms.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled by our payment processor. We keep your subscription status and related records, but we do not store your full card number.
Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your profile, turn optional history features on or off, and delete individual saved connections. You can wipe your data or close your account from in-app settings; account deletion includes a short grace period and then a permanent removal of your saved connections and credentials from our systems. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, contact us using the details below.
Data retention
We keep your account and saved connections until you delete them or close your account. Files you send to a server are deleted within 24 hours. Optional history (such as AI assistant history) is kept only while you have that option enabled.
Children
ShellSage is not directed to children and is intended for users 16 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Where your information is handled
We are based in Canada and your information may be processed in Canada and other countries where we or our service providers operate, with appropriate safeguards in place.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
Deleting your account
You can delete your ShellSage account and all of its data yourself — in the app (Settings > Privacy & Retention > Wipe, or the Delete Account action in your Account settings), or by emailing shellsage@aicanadiansolutions.ca.
