How to delete your ShellSage account
You can delete your ShellSage account and its data yourself, at any time, in three ways: 1. In the app — Settings > Privacy & Retention > Wipe. Type WIPE to confirm and re-authenticate. This starts a 24-hour grace period (so an accidental or hostile wipe can be undone by contacting us), after which your account and data are hard-purged and cannot be recovered. 2. In the app — the Delete Account action in your Account settings. This deletes your account and personal data immediately, with no grace period. 3. By email — write to shellsage@aicanadiansolutions.ca from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We will action the request within 30 days. You do not need an active subscription, and you do not need to contact us, to delete your account — the in-app paths are self-serve.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account permanently erases: • Your account record — your name, email address, phone number and your hashed password. • Your saved SSH connections — the label, host address, port and username, AND the stored encrypted secret for each one (the SSH key or password you saved). • Your AI assistant data — conversations, individual messages, and any images or screenshots you uploaded to the assistant (including the image files on disk). • Your usage records — connection time, per-day usage rollups and feature-usage counters. • Your preferences and privacy/retention settings. • Your entitlements — plan and subscription state held in ShellSage. • Your authentication tokens — every API/session token is revoked, and any pending sign-in (magic) links for your email, along with the IP address and device information recorded with them, are deleted. • Identifying fields on any crash report you generated (your name and email are removed; the anonymous error and stack trace are kept for diagnostics), and the IP address and device information on your security audit entries.
What we keep, and why
Anonymized statistics. When your account is deleted we keep a single anonymous, aggregate row for business analytics: the month you signed up, the month you deleted, your plan, and your lifetime connected-seconds and active-day count. It contains no user id, name, email, phone, host, or IP address, only month-level dates, and it cannot be linked back to you. Security audit trail. Security-relevant events (for example "account wiped") keep their action and timestamp, but the IP address and device information are erased and the entry is no longer tied to any account. Diagnostics. Crash and error reports are kept with your name, email and account link removed. Billing records. Records we are legally required to keep — invoices and payment records for tax and accounting purposes — are retained only for as long as the law requires. Our payment processor (Stripe) also holds its own records of your transactions as an independent data controller, under its own retention rules; deleting your ShellSage account does not delete those.
How long deletion takes
The Delete Account action removes your personal data immediately. The Wipe path starts a 24-hour grace period. Once that window has passed, your data is hard-purged by our nightly clean-up job, which runs at 04:00 America/Toronto (Eastern). So a wipe requested today is gone for good on the first nightly run more than 24 hours later — in practice within 24 to 48 hours. Email requests are actioned within 30 days of us receiving them. Data already deleted may persist for a short time in encrypted backups, which are rotated on a rolling schedule and then destroyed.
Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account
Uninstalling ShellSage from your phone removes the app and its local data from that device, but it does not delete your account on our servers. Use one of the three paths above to delete the account itself.
